This is how I got re payed for trying to be romantic;

yes, I put my glasses on a burning candlelight.
But this accident gave me the opportunity to get myself some new pair of specs x2, check out these new ones:

Last week when I was at Ogilvy, i had to pop in the train back to my homestead on Tuesday because I was expected for a special occasion. Over the last year or so I designed a book for the 75th anniversary of the local football club – where I spend my youth kicking a ball until I moved to England. I designed it mostly when I was in England and sended countless pdf’s to Holland and I got numerous emails providing me with new copy and photo’s. It felt really good to be able to do something for that club now that I moved to England and stopped my ‘carreer’ there. Anyway, myself and 2 of the sponsors drove to a little airport where a beautifull chopper was waiting for us. We flew to the football club and landed on the pitch where all the people where waiting for us. It was an awesom experience to sit in a chopper! I had the first copy of the book with me and it was presented to the oldest member of the club. There was some press and for a second it made me feel really important. The presentation went really well and I’m happy that I did this project for all those people.

Last week I had an amazing useful time at Ogilvy Amsterdam with Pieter Konickx. We did a one-week internships and worked on some live briefs. This was our first internship in an ad agency ever so it was a good experience for us both. We presented our work to the Creative Directors Piebe and Darre, who where really down to earth and interesting people. Big thank you to Ogilvy for having us!

Because the sun is letting us down once again, Here’s a good tune with a nicely shot video to get u all in the summermood!
At Lincoln uni we had a ’superbrieffriday’. That meant doing briefs all day long with only little pauses in between with random classmates that you didn’t worked with before. After every brief we put our work on the wall and had a little mini crit with the group of people we were put with. I was fortunate that I was put with my dear friend Ruud Kool. We went crazy for 30 minutes brainstorming on a ‘tata nano’ brief…a environmental friendly car. Anyway…we spend so much time talking about the goddamn thing that we had so little time to draw em all out. The result was hilarious…at least we thought so. They made it as posters on my bedroom wall now! Here are some details:

dolphins?…

Parrots…now in colour!!

and last but not least, the two-legs-on-one-side-of-the-body-polarbear!

I know Pieter Konickx for a couple of years now. We did highschool and SintLucas(graphic design course) together, and he’s also studying Creative Advertising in Lincoln now. When we live and study in Lincoln we have different creative partners, as you know I’m doing the majority of my projects with Neil. But because Pieter and me are back in Holland for the summer holidays we decided to team up for the time being and get ourselves some bookcrits in Amsterdam to see how the advertising agencies are there. And so we did! We went to Ogilvy and W+K yesterday. We did some new projects the days before and took the train from our hometown Rosmalen to the big city, Amsterdam. The crit at Ogilvy went surprisingly well, a really nice inspiring building and Darre, the creative director, was a really down to earth guy. The crit/conversation went really natural and we even got what we dreamed of, a internship. It’s gonna be a week full of creativity! Keith at W+K was really pressed with time so we only got to meet him for a minute…more on that later hopefully. We already have a place to crash in Amsterdam and are preparing for the intensive but awesome week that we have ahead!

Finishing of some last copy the day before the crits at the local library in our hometown.

The famous Amsterdam canals…and bicycles…and luckily..the sun!

Since I’m a Dutch guy studying in England along with 5 other dutch creatives, we often see strange faces when we speak to eachother in dutch. Now I am the one pulling a strange face:

So me and my creative partner in crime mr Neil Ritson traveled down to London for our first 6 bookcrits ever. We were over excited about the 6 agencies that we got on our list, definitely 6 creative top agencies where it would be a privilege to work for. We started of with bad luck on Monday…Mother cancelled..although we felt that one coming because they already said they were pressed with time…but hey..that’s the business. the second one on the list was Wieden+Kennedy. We were (read; i was) super nervous for our first crit and especially after a nerve wrecking first day in London, walking around with all our stuff for 3 days on our backs, traveling from place to place, we took out the deodorant and got ourselves together. The critt went down really well, and got some useful feedback on our work. Although we didn’t got the time to let it all sink in because we were back on the street….with no place to sleep. We were supposed to stay at a friend of Neil..but no reply when we tried to contact him. After a lot of calling and emailing we finally got a place to sleep(no, not the gutter) and got some time to relax and focus on the following two days. Day 2 was also my birthday, 19 may. We visited SaatchiX and Ogilvy and spoke to some inspiring creatives and got some good opinions on our book. At Saatchi we even got a live-brief to take home with us. That night we stayed at that apartment of Neils mate after all. And it was nice to have a icecold/steaming hot shower and a kitchen to cook some food. the Sainsbury’s pizza went down really well… the last day of our Londontrip was all about WCRS and Grey. After a revised cancellation from WCRS (luckily we were stubborn) we got in and had on of our best crits. A lot of information to take in and its amazing how fascinating 30 minutes can be. Unfortunately the last one, Grey, got cancelled while we were in the reception hall waiting…but hey! that’s life! We can look back at 3 inspiring days with awesome experiences and we started our first of i-don’t-know-how-many-yet-to-come bookcrits with a positive feeling. Were eager to start our final year and get better and better and keep showing our work at professionals and learn from it all.

That deodorant deserves an award…

Neil got mistaken with David Beckham…

ps. We got some exciting news of Saatchi today…more on that soon!

Because I’m back in Holland for the summer holidays i have some spare time on my hands i started to read more and more. I started reading all my Quest magazines again. Its a dutch magazine that covers lots of interesting articles about science, art, nature, technology, psychology, sports, etc! Some pretty good material for an advertising student like myself.
